Like the Wild West, the fledgling esports business is full with opportunity and uncertainty.
In order to compete in the greatest leagues and create audiences on Twitch and YouTube, esports organizations are continuously purchasing and selling teams and players. The construction of training facilities for video gamers is underway. Battle royale is on for who can be the most powerful and influential brand in the world.
Traditional sports leagues have some commonalities. In the summer of 2017, Riot Games began selling League of Legends franchises for $10 million each. Around the same time, Activision Blizzard began selling Overwatch League franchises for $20 million. The New York Yankees, Houston Rockets, Robert Kraft, and Magic Johnson, to mention a few, have all gotten on board.
